Kim Ann Foxman, the stylish singer of Hercules and Love Affair fame, relies on Holli Smith every time she steps on stage. The notoriously picky designer Patrik Ervell has booked her for every one of his shows thus far. And Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony grabbed her to makeover Chloé Sevigny’s mane for their collaborative look book for spring. Needless to say, Holli Smith is cutting out a niche for herself as New York’s go-to person to do the who’s-who of the city’s hair-dos. The former right-hand woman of mop superstar Guido, the San Francisco-born, Brooklyn-based Smith has gone solo for the past two years working alongside imagemakers like Jay Massacret, Brian Molloy, KT Auleta, and, ahem, Douglas Perrett. Now repped by Community NYC, there is not doubt that she’s going to have another blow-out year. But despite her rising success, there’s still no job too small for Smith. “I’ve even shaved an ‘H’ in my dog’s fur,” she says.
